MARRAKESH: El Bahia Palace (Palais El Bahia)

Introduction

I’d heard great things about the El Bahia Palace in Marrakesh and it didn’t disappoint. It’s a large palace with sprawling rooms, but it was extremely crowded when I was there and I kept having to wait for tourist groups to clear out so I could see things.

The El Bahia was built in the 19th century and was meant to be the greatest palace of it’s time. It’s a beautiful building that truly lives up to its name, which means “brilliance”. Every inch seems to be covered in ornate tiles or stucco work, and you could spend days trying to examine all the details.
