Everything has to be in 3D nowadays: our movies, our printers, and anything else we can fit an extra dimension into. And one Portland tattoo artist is now fitting three dimensions into his tattoos.

Winston the Whale, who just goes by "Dave," is a tattoo artist known for his unique brand of 3D tattoos mimicking the classic red/cyan stereoscopic effect (known as anaglyph 3D).

“They don’t actually work on skin,” Dave told the Huffington Post. “Unfortunately there are several factors to making an anaglyph image effective and the contour of the body, skin tone, color overlap, etc. that negate the actual anaglyph 3D effect.”

It's more of an aesthetic than anything holographic actually popping off your arm. But unless someone just happens to have 3D glasses on them, they'll have no way to prove it.

Follow Winston the Whale on Instagram, or on his website (which is completely full of bright 3D colors).
