How to Make Homemade Sweetened Condensed Milk
Have you ever wondered how to make homemade sweetened condensed milk? This recipe is super simple, uses only four ingredients, and produces a made from scratch sweetened condensed milk that you can use in baking, ice cream, hot chocolate and more!
Sweetened condensed milk isn’t something I use often in recipes, but if I do – homemade is always best. I hope you enjoy this version as much as I do.
You might be surprised how easy homemade sweetened condensed milk is to make. You only need four ingredients: milk, sugar, vanilla and butter (okay, and some water) – and a blender. This is really just a dump and go recipe – and it makes just enough to replace a standard size can (14 ounces).
After you’ve made it, store it in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week or use right away in your recipe as called for. It should also freeze well, up to three months. To thaw, place in refrigerator overnight and then whisk until smooth.
- 1 cup powdered milk
- ⅔ cup granulated sugar
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- ⅓ cup to ⅔ cup boiling water
- Add powdered milk, sugar, butter, vanilla, and ⅓ cup boiling water to blender and blend until the sugar is dissolved and the mixture is smooth. If the mixture is too thick, add a bit more water and continue blending, up to an additional ⅓ cup.
