DIY Recycled Materials Birdfeeder

Make your own birdfeeder out of recycled materials!

As spring awakens, so do the birds! Check out this link from the American Museum of Natural Hisotry for the full activity and a list of bird friendly foods!

Some tips and tricks:

There are many materials around the house that make for a good feeder. A milk or juice carton or an empty plastic bottle are some great examples! Be sure to wash the carton with warm water to kill any bacteria or residue that could be harmful to birds.

Birds eat a number of different things in the wild depending on where they live and their species. Be mindful to only include types of food birds can find in the wild. Despite popular belief, bread and bread crumbs can be very harmful for birds, especially stale or moldy bread!

If you have a lot of visitors, try recording all the different types! You can learn to identify birds using this handy guide from the Audobon Society.
