My thoughts are with the children, parents, and KinderCare staff who were affected by yesterday’s shooting of two KinderCare employees on Bauer Drive. Thankfully, no children were hurt or witnessed the violence and the two adult victims are expected to recover. I want to commend our police officers at the West Springfield Police Station for their incredible response to this emergency. FCPD evacuated the facility, bringing the children and staff to the West Springfield Government Center where they were reunited with parents. Police worked swiftly in coordination with other agencies to track the suspect and quickly apprehended him at Dulles Airport. Phishing Scam Alert 🚨 The Clerk of Fairfax Circuit Court has issued a warning about a scam email being sent to area residents and businesses. The email claiming to be from "The Florida County Circuit Court," mentions that the recipient has been named in a breach of contract case with a requested appearance at the Fairfax County Circuit Court on May 14th. On April 19th, Fairfax County and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) are once again cohosting the annual Scam Jam, raising awareness of current malicious practices by scammers and bad actors. This year will have increased emphasis on the role of artificial intelligence. Scam Jam will be held at the Government Center in Fairfax (12000 Government Center Pkwy) from 9am to 12pm. It is important to stay educated to protect yourself and your loved ones. I’d like to thank AARP, FCPD, the FBI, and county staff for working tirelessly to prevent this exploitation and for making this event possible each year.

BAILEY’S CROSSROADS SHOOTING SUSPECT IN CUSTODY Posted on May 1, 2024 by FCPD Public Affairs Bureau Mason Police District – A 24-year-old man has been arrested for the attempted robbery and shooting that occurred on April 12 in Bailey’s Crossroads. On April 12 around 5 a.m., officers responded to a shot person call in the 3400 block of Lake Street in Bailey’s Crossroads. The victim, an adult man, exited his vehicle and was approached by the suspect who displayed a firearm and demanded the victim’s property. A struggle ensued and the victim was shot in the lower body. The victim was taken to the hospital for non-life-threatening injuries. Through detectives’ investigation, they identified Abner Neftali Selen Barrera of Del Ray as the shooter. Yesterday, Selen Barrera was arrested by officers with the City of Alexandria Police Department. He was charged with Malicious Wounding, Use of a Firearm in Commission of a Felony and Robbery. He is currently being held at the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center on no bond. Detectives would like to speak to anyone who may have information about this case. Those with information are asked to please call our Major Crimes Bureau at 703-246-7800, option 5. First Watch Always a great place to eat!! They also get you in and out quickly on early weekday mornings. Have tried other places, but they have better healthy options and are much quicker than other breakfast places. The managers and wait staff are all wonderful as well!!
