Though building architectural pieces took much time and effort, the tools used were simple. A key element that helped in the production of tools was stone ponders, and copper blades that were placed on chisels and drills. To measure angles they used long ropes, wooden robs, and wooden set squares. The materials that were used to make the pyramids ranged from an array of stones and limestone. They also used mud bricks, granite, basalt, and sand (Macaulay, pg. 22). Like pyramids, temples consisted of limestone and granite. The use of sandstone became apparent during the New Kingdom. When deciding on the placement of the stones, an important element was spacing. Though the stones would be set, the process of cutting the blocks still needed to be completed. Though the Ancient world has a system of transportation, the continuous intake of stone was important in the completion of this architecture. The main location in which limestone was located was the Mugattam hills, where granite and basalt was found by Aswan (Chrisp, pg. 20). Mugattam hill is on the banks of the Nile. The following tools were used in completing the pyramids, as well as temples.

Chisel: made of copper from the desert. Blades had to be narrow so that it would not get stuck in the stones while Egyptians were trying to shape it. The chisel was also used to add inscriptions.

Mallet: This tool was used to strike the chisel. Often made up of wood, the continuous use of the mallet caused it to wear away. It helped the chisel cut into stone and dates back to about 1405 BC. (source)

Plumb bob & Set Square: This was an essential tool in constructing pyramids because it allowed the Egyptians to make pretty accurate right angles. With the plumb bob, they were able to monitor correct horizontal lines. This material was made of wood.

Basket: Though some may not see a basket as being a vital tool, it's purpose was to carry materials, debris, and food. These were used in homes and helped with moving things from one place to another. Fiber was the material used to make baskets.

Bow drill: This tool was made out of copper, wood, and the use of string. It's appearance looks more like a bow, in which the drill handle is wrapped around, allowing it to move quickly back and forth. It was able to produce holes in wood and stone if it was used and moved fast enough.

Copper Saw: This tool was made of wood and copper. It's use is to cut stone and wood.
Other tools that were used was wooden wedge, boning rods, ruler or measure, and awl.
