Ashburn the Best Place to Live in Virginia, Among Top in Nation: Money Magazine

Ashburn was named No. 22 in the top '50 Best Places to Live' in the US and ranked No. 1 for job growth in 2016 by Money magazine.

LOUDOUN COUNTY, VA Ashburn was named No. 22 in the top "50 Best Places to Live 2016" and No. 1 for job growth in the U.S. by Money magazine.

To determine their ranking, Money analyzed 60 key factors, including taxes, education, health care and more, according to Money. Columbia, Md. ranked No. 1 on the list.

Hunter Mill District, Va., consisting of parts of several Fairfax County communities, including Reston, Herndon, Vienna and Tysons, placed at No. 28.

Ranked at #1 for job growth, Ashburn's unemployment rate is 3.2 percent, well below that national average of 4.9 percent, according to Money. Located within the Dulles Technology Corridor, major employers include Verizon Business, AOL, and Orbital ATK Inc. In addition to tech, jobs are plentiful in manufacturing and the defense industry.

Home to the Washington Redskins team headquarters, Ashburn's amenities include downtown One Loudoun, where people in the Loudoun County community gather for events, including outdoor concerts, farmer's markets, 5K races--and more.

Loudoun County is the wealthiest county in the U.S. with a median household income of $123,966, according to U.S. Census data. Housing is pricey, according to Money, with the median home value through July 2016 at $415,000.

Money notes that Ashburn residents have to trek a 30-mile commute to Washington D.C. with frequent traffic congestion.
