Second Snow Storm Hits Falls Church: Cancellations, Snow Removal

The City of Falls Church has announced several cancellations and a snow removal policy for streets.

FALLS CHURCH, VA — A second snow storm this week resulted in closures and snow removal around the City of Falls Church Friday.

The city government is closed Friday, as well as the Mary Riley Styles Public Library. City government employees, except emergency employees, were not asked to report or telework. Falls Church City Public Schools, its offices and extended day care program are closed.

The Falls Church Community Center is open. Recreation and Parks classes and activities are cancelled until 5 p.m., but a decision on evening classes and activities will be announced at 3 p.m.

The city's Department of Public Works removes snow from public streets and public parking lots. Snow emergency routes are prioritized first, followed by other streets.

Property owners are responsible for clearing snow from sidewalks, driveways and entrances. Residents must remove snow and ice from sidewalks around their property 12 hours after the snowfall stops, or 12 hours after sunrise if it snows at night. Commercial property owners must remove snow from sidewalks six hours after snowfall stops, or six hours after sunrise if snow falls at night. A violation of the city's snow removal policy on sidewalks could result in a $100 fine for the first offense in five years, $200 for a second offense and $500 for a third offense.
