LORTON, VA — Alpine-X, a developer of a new indoor snowsports resort in Lorton, is creating a program that will allow more people to participate in skiing and other winter sports that can be extremely expensive.

The company plans to use its indoor snowsports resorts at Lorton and across North America to help solve the challenges of cost, geography and seasonality that have prevented many people from participating in snowsports.

As part of the Alpine-X "Snow Play for All" program, the company plans to offer a minimum of 1,000 no-cost visits every year to each of its locations to foster inclusion.

"Our indoor resorts offer an ideal opportunity for us to grow a community that can participate in and enjoy snowsports,” John Emery, CEO of Alpine-X, said in a statement Thursday. “With convenient locations and perfect conditions year-round, our company's resorts are a great place for new participants to learn about snowsports in a safe, fun, accessible environment."

The Lorton facility, a $225 million project called Fairfax Peak, will serve as the company's flagship indoor winter sports venue. Alpine-X hopes to have a luxury hotel, a gravity-powered mountain coaster, zip lines, and food and beverage outlets to be located next to the facility. The resort is projected to open in early 2025.

In Fairfax County, Alpine-X's goal is to transform the closed portion of the Interstate 95 Lorton landfill into an indoor ski facility. The county had been seeking to repurpose the capped portion of the landfill in an environmentally conscious manner.

For its "Snow Play for All" program, the company will work with local and national programs in Northern Virginia and other metropolitan areas near an Alpine-X resort to identify children, families, and others who have been underrepresented or unable to join in the community of snowsports participants. Alpine-X's program will include all costs for equipment rental, lessons, lift tickets and meals during a visit.

This new program is an extension of the company's Alpine-X Club, a free membership program geared toward building a participating community of snowsports enthusiasts and supporters. New members can sign up at alpine-x.com and receive benefits such as invitations to special events, discounts on lift tickets and equipment rentals, and other items.

The company recently announced stock offering to the general public that allows both accredited and non-accredited investors to invest in Alpine-X and own a piece of our company.

"With this type of stock offering, we are making snowsports not only more equitable in terms of access, but also in terms of ownership,” Emery said.
