Ron Mueck's monumental, hyper-real sculpture Boy (1999) entered the ARoS collection after its debut at the Venice Biennale in 2001. Since Boy's first exhibition at ARoS in 2004, the sculpture has played a pioneering role in underlining ARoS' ambition to collect outstanding works of international contemporary art.

Boy is synonymous with ARoS and the reason many people visit the museum from near and far. To celebrate Boy's twentieth birthday at ARoS, we will be presenting him in a special exhibition of Ron Mueck's work alongside another of his magnificent sculptures: A Girl (2006), a five-meter long, hyper-real and highly detailed sculpture of a newborn baby girl.

This special exhibition offers a unique insight into the work of one of the most influential sculptors of our time and will challenge visitors to take a fresh look at the human body, making them aware of both the trauma and the miracle of birth.
