Vitamin “B1”, which is also known as thiamine. This “B1” water-soluble vitamin is an important one and is part of a very large family of other B-complex vitamins whose main role in the body is to convert blood sugars into glucose for energy.

Thiamine is found in a wide variety of foods. The best sources of thiamine are pork and whole grains or enriched grain products. But thiamine can also be found in organ meats, red meats, yeast, nuts, sunflower seeds, peas, milk, cauliflower, spinach and legumes. Some foods rich in vitamin B1 are that of beef, liver, beans, nuts and rice.

The role of vitamin “B1” otherwise known as thiamine is to metabolise food for energy, maintain proper heart, nerve and brain function and to generally keep the body working properly. Thiamine is a water-soluble vitamin and is used in nearly every cell in the body.

Thiamine is found in both plants and animals and plays a crucial role in certain metabolic reactions. Your body needs it to form adenosine triphosphate (ATP), which every cell of the body uses for energy.

Thiamine also plays a role in muscle contraction and conduction of nerve signals. Thiamine is essential for the metabolism of pyruvate.

When the body is deficient in thiamine it develops a disease called Beriberi, which is also simply known as thiamine deficiency. There are two types of the disease: wet beriberi and dry beriberi. Wet beriberi affects the heart and circulatory system. In extreme cases, wet beriberi can cause heart failure.

Now just as you can have a thiamine deficiency you can also have it in excess and some symptoms of this with lesser side effects are: Nausea, tight feeling in your throat, sweating, feeling warm, mild rash or itching, feeling restless and tenderness or a hard lump where a thiamine injection was given.

Good information. It is easily taken when you take a B -complex multi and then you get a lot of other good B vitamins as well. Can be taken daily with most diets as added source for healthy lifestyle. A lot of people think that they can get all the vitamins they need just by eating healthy, but I disagree. You have to take into account where the foods are grown, what minerals are in the soils and are the foods exposed to too many chemicals and other things that leech out all the good stuff.

Every thing have chemicals in it including the air we breath totally polluted also B complex multi. But that more worse, because it is made in a lab you do not know what they put in it so the best thing to do is go natural. Do not take those lab made tablets though you knew better.

Sorry I will have to agree to disagree with you. If the tablets are made by big pharmaceutical companies then i would agree but there are a number of private companies that are producing high quality vitamins and that is why they do it, to assure natural health people like us get good quality supplements. I am a natural health care provider and i recommend lots of nutritional supplements all the time but i warn people to avoid the big giants who do not care what goes into there supplements.
