I love when the development team themselves show off how excited they are about new features. There is genuine excitement in the most recent post by IL-2 Great Battles Executive Producer Jason Williams about the new cloud system. That excitement comes with some brand new screenshots too so let’s have a look!

The forecast? Cloudy!

The visuals on display show what the new clouds are like in lower light situations and that is a place where the technology has really been able to shine in other sims. We see the same kind of improvements here with nice shading around the edges of cloud formations and better definition of lit and shadowed areas due to the low sun angle.

Here’s what Jason had to say:

This past weekend I decided to play around with the new clouds during sunrise and sunset flying the P-51 in our default finish. I really enjoyed how the lighting and metal skin interacted against the new clouds, including some cool reflections in the spinner. I also like the pink hue on the second pic. The new clouds definitely offer some better backgrounds for screens than our old clouds so that is for sure.
