Drosanthemum floribundum, commonly referred to as rodondo creeper, is a low growing perennial succulent flowering plant in the stone plant family, Aizoaceae. Drosanthemum floribundum is native to the Eastern Cape of South Africa. The plant has short finger shaped succulent leaves with a way skin to protect it from water loss and the sun. The flowers are bright purple and have many narrow petals. Drosanthemum floribundum is grown as an ornamental plant for its drought tolerance and long lasting purple flowers that cover much ground when established. The plant thrives in well draining soil sitting in full sun to very partial shade. It is a winter growing plant and should be adequately watered during that time. Watering should be heavily restricted during the summer months. USDA plant hardiness zone 9a-10b.

Drosanthemum floribundum seeds require consistent moisture and humidity to germinate, but soil should not be soaking wet. Cloning boxes, ziplock bags, and other containers that retain moisture are ideal to store sown pots. Use a well draining sterilized potting mix. Seeds should be sown on top of potting mixture and lightly covered with a thin layer of sand or potting mix, just enough to cover the seeds. Germinating pots should be kept indoors out of extreme light and heat. Ideal germination temperatures range from 60°F to 80°F. Germination typically takes 2 to 4 weeks to occur. Even with optimal conditions, germination may be slow and sporadic.
