ANIMALS ARE NOT OURS to experiment on, eat, wear, use for entertainment or abuse in any other way.
About us
The People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) Foundation is a UK-based charity dedicated to establishing and protecting the rights of all animals. Like humans, animals are capable of suffering and have interests in leading their own lives; therefore, they are not ours to use – for food, clothing, entertainment, experimentation or any other reason. PETA and our affiliates around the world educate policymakers and the public about cruelty to animals and promote an understanding of the right of all animals to be treated with respect. PETA works through public education, research, legislation, special events, celebrity involvement and protest campaigns.

Starting today in Utrecht, Netherlands: PETA UK and TPI Utrecht are hosting a two-day hybrid event to kick off a global education hub on animal-free innovation in research, testing, and education. The 60 available spaces were quickly secured by participants from academia, industry, government, and NGOs attending from 18 countries around the world. TPI Utrecht and PETA UK are looking forward to welcoming all participants and working together to establish the hub that will focus on the creation, collection, spreading and uptake of materials, knowledge and practices for education on animal-free innovation.

In terribly painful experiments, animals are inflicted through exposure to chemicals or surgery with osteoarthritis symptoms that woefully fail to recapitulate the nature and complexity of human osteoarthritis. No wonder decades of horrible animal experiments have not rendered a single effective treatment for human osteoarthritis. The suffering of animals needs to stop right now and research on arthritis needs to shift to using animal-free, human-relevant research tools, such as these joint-on-chip models!
Have you ever wondered how medicines, like the commonly used paracetamol (or Advil and Tylenol for our North American friends), are tested before reaching the pharmacy? And what about the COVID-19 vaccines that many of us received a couple years ago? They are all tested on ANIMALS... Before reaching humans, a new medicine needs to pass a so-called preclinical phase. In this phase, the medicine is tested in vitro (often on cell cultures in a petri dish) as well as on animals! The animals are used to test the safety, toxicity, and effectiveness of the medicine. This is done before fully understanding the potential effect it will have on them. Animals used for preclinical trials range from small mice, to dogs, to larger animals, like horses! Imagine testing an unknown pharmaceutical compound on your family dog—would you allow it? Would you find it ethical? Every year, more than 190-million laboratory animals are sacrificed for scientific research, many of which for the testing of medicines that may behave completely differently once they are finally administered to a human. If you think about the biology of a mouse and that of a human… it doesn’t take a university degree to understand that they’re not one in the same. At chiron, we aim to significantly reduce the disproportionate number of animals being killed for drug development and testing by providing accurate insights on disease behaviour with our organ-on-chip platforms (animal free!), to help develop and discover more effective, powerful, and targeted medicines. If you’d like to know more about what we’re doing with our organ-on-chip technology, or if you’re a company that would like to reduce your animal experimentation, we’d love to hear from you! If you’re curious to learn more about the reduction of animal sacrifice in science, you can check out these associations: PETA, Proefdiervrij, Animal Free Research UK #wethinkthatstoomany #animalfree #3Rs #organonchip
