Gianni Nunnari’s Hollywood Gang is teaming with Italian animation studio Rainbow Group on a live-action “Winx Club” movie.
The “Winx Club” television series, which launched in 2003, is set in a magical dimension at the Alfea College, a school for fairies in all the realms, and centered on a girl named Bloom. She and her fairy friends form the Winx Club.
“It’s a charming, magical, infectiously empowering and hip series,” said Hollywood Gang president Nunnari. “We are tremendously excited to bring the live-action feature of this international sensation to the big screen for the world to enjoy.”
Netflix recently announced it ordered two seasons of programming in 2016 for a “Winx Club” animated spin-off series; the original “Winx” series ran on Nickelodeon for five years.
Nunnari, who is based at Warner Bros., is best known for producing the “300” films and exec producing “The Departed.” He’s currently developing “Robotech,” “Dante’s Inferno,” “Napoleon” and “A Willing Patriot.” Production is also under way on Hollywood Gang’s recently announced 10-episode series “Start Up,” starring Martin Freeman and Adam Brody for Crackle.
Rainbow Group has three Canadian animation studios, two in Italy and subsidiaries in Russia, Hong Kong, Singapore and Malaysia.
