Shakira

The Colombian-born music icon Shakira is one of the most successful entertainers of her generation. A singer, songwriter, dancer, and record producer, she burst on the scene in Latin America in the 90’s with her major-label debut, Pies Descalzos, before crossing over in the United States with the 2002 album Laundry Service, which became a massive hit and included the best-selling single of the year, “Whenever, Wherever.”

She’s dabbled in reality television, making appearances as a coach on “The Voice,” while her 2010 FIFA World Cup song, “Waka Waka,” became the biggest-selling World Cup song of all time, and with over a billion views, it’s one of the most-watched music videos on YouTube ever. A winner of five MTV Video Music Awards, two Grammy Awards, eight Latin Grammy Awards, seven Billboard Music Awards, and 28 Billboard Latin Music Awards, Shakira has sold over 100 million records worldwide, making her one of the popular artists of all time. She runs the philanthropic charity organization, Pies Descalzos Foundation, and in 2014, was listed as the 58th most powerful woman in the world by Forbes.
