WAR - Man at War Logo

Brief from client

Modern military, high tech etc. Think more along the lines of drones and advanced warfare than traditional cliche army soldiers type stuff.

Please let me know what you think. Went with a theme that vaguely resembles an air strike within the lettering, bullets flying etc but with a more cold big brother and almost looming corporate feel overall (evil corporation type of feel).

If this is for an actual client, I would maybe steer away from telling them you went for a looming evil corporation vibe. Unless they were going for that! ^-^

I do think it is neat looking. The gray and blue do go well together and fit the distant and cold you were going for. The text is interesting and kerned perfectly.

I do like it. I just want to know what it is for! It feels video gamey.

Thanks waffles! And yep this is for a client! And no worries they're cool enough to not associate themselves as being 'big and evil" Lol! It's more like touching on the concept of the struggles we humans have in our everyday lives and the "war" against the overall evil in the world, whether it's someone trying to take your job, government choosing military funding over curbing poverty in the nation, etc. Basically protesting against all things evil. Hence the title "Man at war". As we're still waging war against these forces to this day.

I totally can see this being made as a logo for a video game cover though! :-)

Based in the outline with the logo it fits well and you have good execution.

Based on the outline in your response to our friend Waffles however I think it is off the mark. This second outline you have MAN as the emphasis and I don't feel it is personal enough, to me there is too much of the looming corp and not enough personal struggle.

Interesting dilema.

Thanks! And yes that was my goal, I didn't want it to be cliche in terms of portraying a single person against the war as some sort of "relatable hero" but more so as the "war" being the problem and it will continue in its current state until something is done about it - something kind of like satire if you will. I wanted it to kind of use elements of propaganda more so than "we are the people" type of feel - so it's meant to look more distant, reflecting, and cold and something convincing you that you don't want it to happen. I hope that makes sense because I can see how its a very complex concept. :-)

Thanks! Any reason why you marked down for symbol?

I'll give you mine. I think the symbol is more like a tricked out word mark, as "war" is spelled out, but it's very complicated with all these bobs and pieces.

A symbol shouldn't really be read. Since you spelled out "war", everybody reads it instead of looking at it. Have you ever managed to look at a word without actually reading it? It's barely possible and that's not something you want people to do with a logo =)

I read WER and then WOR and then finally got WAR after I read the subtitle. Going with Shawali's comment, I was stuck on trying to figure out the puzzle of the word instead of remembering an image or symbol to represent the company. I think you could do a symbol with these bullet whizzing lines and mountain range in a block that would be a simple symbol that would give the same feeling and emotion without confusing brains and taking 20 seconds to figure it out instead of 5 seconds (which is all you're going to get when consumers catch a glimpse on a billboard, bus, the moment they glance up at a screen, etc).
