Replicas of the DeLorean DMC-12 used in the Back to the Future franchise may be a dime a dozen but this particular example, up for auction through Bring a Trailer, is particularly impressive.

The DMC-12 has always been extraordinarily striking thanks largely to its unique and eye-catching design. Evidently, the previous owner of this one was a big fan of Back to the Future and has made a host of modifications in order to make it look like the iconic time machine. It is being sold in Canada with a clean Carfax report and registration in British Columbia. It has been driven ~23,000 miles (~37,000 km).

To make the car look like it has just come off the set of the Hollywood classic, the entire decklid area has been overhauled with custom-fabricated vents and plenty of piping around the exterior of the car. We suspect nailing the looks of the original took quite a lot of time and came at great expense but true Back to the Future fans will likely agree that it was worth the effort.

The interior of the DeLorean has also been overhauled. For starters, the seats have been reupholstered in black and gray leather while the dashboard has been modified to mimic the car from the films. Heck, there’s even a replica ‘flux capacitor’ mounted between the seats and plenty of exposed cables to make everything run. A power inverter, audio equipment, auxiliary batteries, and a fog machine are found under the hood.

No mechanical changes appear to have been made to the car, meaning it continues to be powered by a 2.85-liter V6 mounted behind the cabin and pumping out 130 hp and 153 lb-ft (207 Nm) of torque when it was new. This engine works alongside a three-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels.
