West Ham 'are in advanced talks with Juventus' to sign former Chelsea loanee Denis Zakaria on permanent transfer to replace outgoing captain Declan Rice

  • The Irons are getting closer to signing Zakaria after a failed loan spell at Chelsea
  • Declan Rice is subject of a bid from Man City and Zakaria could replace him
  • Talks are advancing between West Ham and Juventus, according to reports

West Ham United have stepped up talks to sign a replacement for Declan Rice and are 'in advanced talks' over a move for Juventus' Denis Zakaria, according to reports in Italy.

The midfielder spent last season on loan at Chelsea but failed to impress at Stamford Bridge, making just seven Premier League appearances.

Chelsea were unwilling to meet the clause that would have seen Zakaria's move become permanent as they plan for a future without the Juventus star.

However, this has not put the Irons off the Swiss international as Sky Sport Italia report that Juventus and West Ham are now in 'advanced negotiations' over a move.

It is believed that two phone calls have already been held to discuss the details of a permanent transfer.

It was previously reported that Zakaria has been lined up as a potential replacement for Declan Rice

The England international is subject of interest from Arsenal and Man City, with the former submitting their first offer for the midfielder on Monday

Ajax midfielder Edson Alvarez and Fulham's Joao Palhinha have also been considered but are thought to be harder to sign than Zakaria.

Juventus are reportedly willing to let the midfielder depart this summer, and a return to London could be on the cards.

It remains to be seen as to whether a deal can be reached, but things are moving in the right direction for Zakaria to return to the Premier League.
