Ludwigia brevipes is one of the more narrow-leaved Ludwigia species and grows in colours from red to green. With its bushy growth habit, it creates a visually appealing focal point in the midground of the tank.

Compared to Ludwigia arcuata, the leaves of Ludwigia brevipes are about three times wider, giving them a fuller appearance that falls somewhat in-between Ludwigia arcuata and the larger Ludwigia arcuata x repens in terms of size. This species is native to only three easternmost states of North America: Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina.

The lanceolate shape of its leaves also sets Ludwigia brevipes apart from Ludwigia arcuata. The colouration of this Ludwigia can vary depending on lighting conditions. Under strong lighting, it displays vibrant orange growth with red shoot tips, while under low lighting, the leaves tend to grow green. It is best to provide CO2 injection, a good nutrient-rich substrate, and regular fertilisation to promote optimal growth and colouration. Ludwigia brevipes can tolerate a wide range of water parameters, but soft to medium-hard water and a slightly acidic pH is preferred.

This versatile Ludwigia looks best when planted as a bush in the midground of the aquarium. Regular trimming helps maintain its bushy growth and encourages healthy development.

Ludwigia brevipes exhibits relatively fast growth, allowing it to quickly fill out its area in the tank. Its adaptable nature and willingness to thrive in various water conditions make it suitable for a range of aquarium setups.
