Now, the publisher is bringing its brand of free-to-play online games to a decidedly more hardcore crowd with Combat Arms. The online first-person shooter is expected to enter closed beta beginning May 30, with an official launch slated for this summer.

While Combat Arms will be exchanging the cute, vibrant atmosphere of Maple Story for a brutal mercenary playground, the game will stay true to the company's free-to-play business model. Players will be able to customize their soldier with a variety of weapons and accessories. The game also offers a persistent character profile, where players will earn experience and in-game currency, which translate to improved weapons and gear.

For information on how to sign up for the closed beta, head over to Nexon's official Combat Arms Web site.
