Cuphea hyssopifolia is a hardy small shrub with small, elliptical bright green leaves that are densely packed on the hairy stems.
From summer to autumn tubular flowers are borne in the leaf axils (where the leaf meets the stem), and they are produced in shades of white, pink and purple.
NB. This species will self seed and can become an environmental weed in some areas, particularly in warmer climates.
Varieties include:
'Mad Hatter' - white and pink flowers
'Golden Ruby' has golden green foliage and purple flowers.
