Corel Protorelic Phenomenon (Cactuar Crush)
Cactuar Crush is one of the many mini-games introduced in Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth. It is also part of the protorelic quests situated in the desert area of the Corel Region that is available to explore starting Chapter 8. In this IGN FF7 Rebirth guide, we will help you obtain all the pieces of the protorelic in the Corel region and detail all the available prizes for beating the Cactuar Crush mini-game.
In order to obtain all the pieces of the protorelic in Corel, you will need to hunt down some Cactuar-shaped rocks which will eventually lead you to the Cactuar Crush mini-game.
Each phase of the Cactuar Crush has its own set of challenges and prizes once you reach a certain Rank/Target Score.
Below you can skip ahead to the individual intels...
How to Locate The Four Cactuar Rocks in Corel Region
As with all protorelic quests in the Corel region, you will first need to locate the Cactuar Rock. You can locate the cactuar rock by raising the cactuar statue obtained at the front door of the Modular Reactor.
When you are near a cactuar rock, you can also spot if you are getting closer as there will be cactuars around the environment to lead you towards the location of the rock.
Below are the locations of all the cactuar rocks, however, you must first start the designated protorelic intel quest in order for the cactuar rock location to count. Once you find one cactuar rock, it becomes a fast travel point.
Cactuar Rock I
Cactuar Rock II
Cactuar Rock III
Cactuar Rock IV

Phenomenon Intel 1: Treasure Protector G
The first of the protorelic quests. Before you can start the mini-game in the Modular Reactor, you will first have to confront a group of small orange cactuars.
Once you defeat the cactuars, head back to the Modular Reactor, to attempt the Cactuar Crush with Yuffie. In order to get the protorelic piece, you will have to get at least a Rank I, or 1,000 points to complete the intel.
While the green cactuars have a physical weakness, the orange cactuars are weak to magic. Therefore, with Yuffie, you can change between her normal attacks and her ninjutsu, which acts as a magic attack. You can activate the ninjutsu by throwing your weapon and not retrieving it. This will change your regular attack button to ninjutsu mode. Use Art of War ability on the bigger cactuars to take them out faster.
Target Score | Prize |
---|---|
Rank I - 1000 | Mist Hi-Potion |
Rank 2 - 1500 | Mega-Potion |
Rank 3 - 2500 | Crescent Moon Charm |
Phenomenon Intel 2: Kid G’s Trial
Cactuar II rock will be located near the west coast. Head to a set of climbable platforms where you will also have to use your grappling gun to swing between climbing sets.
Here you will confront a set of gold small cactuars. They are relatively weak to any physical attack and therefore any character will suffice. If they start dodging your attacks, use Tifa to halt them and eventually stagger them to be able to hit them.
After the fight, head to the Modular Reactor, you will now have to attempt Cactuar Crush with Aerith. She uses both Shadow and Luminous Ward which you must activate when the respective cactuars appear.
Shadow Ward affects the dark cactuars while Luminous Ward affects the bright cactuars. You must be standing within the Ward for the attacks to deal damage. In addition, the green cactuars will also be thrown in the mix and these cactuars are not prone to Wards, therefore they must be attacked without the use of any sort of ward.
Use Soul Drain to attack the bigger cactuars. Eventually an even bigger cactuar will pop up, known as the Magical Gigantuar. Activate a luminous ward and wait until it body slams itself. It will automatically stagger itself and use Soul Drain to take out a good chunk of itself. When it stands up again, avoid it's attack and it will once again body slam itself to the ground.
Target Score | Prize |
---|---|
Rank I - 1000 | Mist Hi-Potion |
Rank 2 - 1500 | Hi-Ether |
Rank 3 - 2500 | Item Master Materia Earrings |
Phenomenon Intel 3: Unfriendly Competition
Cactuar III rock will be located in an underground platform, next to the Scrapyard Prison location.
Here you will confront Gigantuar. Unlike the last set of cactuars, Gigantuar will become pressured when it does his signature move “Needle Rain”. Attack it as soon as you see Gigantuar initiating the move. This will not only stop the move from being executed, but it will also pressure it. While it is pressured, use any character such as Tifa or Barret to fill the pressure gauge as quickly as possible to stagger the enemy. Repeat this process and if needed, invoke a summon, preferably Ifrit, or any summon with high attack damage, to help you defeat the enemy faster.
Head to the Modular Reactor to start the Cactuar Rush mini-game. You will take control of Yuffie again, but this time around the goal, prizes, and enemies spawned will differ slightly from the last time you used her.
The gameplay for this third time around is the same as the first, only this time the Cacneo can switch up their affinity, so you have to change your attacks on the fly as well.
Target Score | Prize |
---|---|
Rank I - 2000 | Mist Giga-Potion |
Rank 2 - 3000 | Cosmotite Ore |
Rank 3 - 4000 | Dark Matter |
Phenomenon Intel 4: Bladesman of Legend
Cactuar IV Rock is located on the coast northwest of the region, south from the Chocobo Stop nearby. Follow the cactuar signs in the environment where it will lead you to a set of climbable handholds that will lead you to an upper level, isolated surface with the only visible thing being the Cactuar IV Rock.
Here you will have to confront Gargantuar. This enemy has a similar fight set to the Phenomenon Intel 3 fight, so not much strategy nor equipment must be modified from the last one. It has the same weaknesses as well!
Head to the Modular Reactor to start the Cactuar Rush mini-game. You will take control of Aerith again, but this time around the goal, prizes, and enemies spawned will differ slightly from the last time you used her.
Instead of the Magical Gigantuar, a Gold Gigantuar will pop up and it takes a little more time to take it out, but thankfully, the game gives you more time as well to defeat it. You take it out almost extacly the same as the Magical Gigantuar, only difference you don't need to activate any sort of ward.
Target Score | Prize |
