When I went to check the post, this dead mammal was at the side of my 'farm' gate and having received no post, I could pick up a couple of leaves from something in the middle of the lane and carry it back to photograph.

My first thought was a mouse and whether it was a house or woodmouse. It didn't really fit either as the one remaining ear didn't look big enough for a woodmouse and the tail was nowhere near long enough for a housemouse (https://www.wildlifetrusts.org/).

I don't remember ever seeing a vole before but did some checking. So, having found two types, field and bank vole, which was it?

This informative post was just what I was looking for: https://www.ispotnature.org/communities/uk-and-ireland/view/observation/817631/ and I'm fairly confident I came across a Bank vole, probably killed by a cat.
