Pope Francis is plugged in to the future of the planet.
Electric car company Fisker said Friday that it will provide the 84-year-old Pope with the first all-electric, bulletproof Popemobile late next year.
The unique vehicle will be an altered version of the Fisker Ocean, and production will begin in November 2022, the company said in a press release. The SUV will have room for pope to stand and wave.
The environmentally conscious pontiff already has at least one electric car for cruising around the Vatican, but the Fisker model would be the first of its kind designed for bulletproof trips through crowds.
Henrik Fisker and Geeta Gupta-Fisker presented the designs to Pope Francis on Thursday.
Pope Benedict XVI received a hybrid electric-gas Mercedes-Benz Popemobile in the early 2010s.
Mercedes-Benz began making bulletproof vehicles for the head of the Catholic Church after the 1981 assassination attempt on Pope John Paul II.
Fisker Inc. is Henrik Fisker’s second bid at starting an innovative car company. His first try, Fisker Automotive, went bankrupt in 2012 and was defunct by 2014.
