Madonna’s First U.S. Concert in Her Tour Is Receiving Backlash for This Understandable Reason

Like any celebrity, Madonna has her own set of quirks and rituals. And, according to some of her loyal fans, being late to her concerts is absolutely one of them.

At the kick-off of the North American leg of her Celebration Tour on Dec. 13, for example, the “Like a Virgin” singer was over two hours late, Page Six reports. The show, which was scheduled to start at 8:30 pm, only began at 11:45 pm. And while it may have been a tradition throughout her career, fans, who gathered at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn for the concert, were understandably upset.

“Madonna is [an] awesome singer but she really didn’t care about her fans starting that late for no reason,” one user wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter). “People were booing and leaving ’cause she was so late.”

According to many of her fans, her tardiness indicates one major takeaway: her seeming lack of respect for her fans. “I thought she was done with that self-absorbed behavior,” one user wrote on TikTok. “Her audience is older now they don’t have time to sit around for two hours waiting for her.”

“I don’t know why anyone still supports Madonna,” another echoed. “Routinely showing up 3+ hours late is a clear indication of what she thinks of her fans.”

And while most of the internet might be bashing the singer right now, some others are simply brushing off her lateness as a simple personality quirk. “It’s Madonna. She shows up late. Always has,” one user wrote on X. “Trying to guess what time Madonna’s going to come on tonight at Barclays Center in New York because she notoriously always comes on late, but it’s always worth it for the show!” another wrote.

Madonna will perform another one of her shows at Barclays tonight, any bets on when it’ll start?
