Create a Better World

Do you sometimes wish you could do more to make the world a better place? You can. The Create a Better World (CBW) team creates opportunities for people like you who want to build community and make a difference in the lives of others. By guiding and supporting people to take action in the world, we are channels of God’s Love, Grace, and Power as we help transform ideas into reality through mindful service. Through CBW, we have contributed to projects and organizations such as St Francis House, local Food Banks, Rebuilding Together, Habitat for Humanity, and the Low Income Housing Institute (LIHI)—to name a few.

How to Get Involved:

You are invited to participate in one of our seasonal upcoming service opportunities listed below. If you are searching for another way to volunteer your time and energy or get more involved with the Create a Better World Team, we can match you to your specific interest or help you organize and lead your own effort. Contact Cathy Lindsay to start the conversation. You can also support CBW year-round using the donate button above and putting “CBW” in the Donor Note/Comment field.

Support CBW with company matching funds! Some employers offer company matching for donations. All company matching funds to CSL Seattle go directly to support Create a Better World programs. Ask your employer if about matching funds!

A Season of Service

Upcoming Service Opportunities

Phinney Neighborhood Garage Sale

Saturday May 18, 9am-1pm

Are you doing some spring cleaning? CSL Seattle is joining the Phinney Neighborhood Association in their annual neighborhood-wide garage sale. You’re invited to donate items to CSL for resale at the Garage Sale here on our Campus.

We need your high quality, clean, gently used donations to make our participation in the Phinney Neighborhood Association Garage Sale a smashing success! Here are the details:

  • We are looking for housewares, clothing, working electronics, clothing, small furniture, toys, games, and assorted treasures.
  • Please consider items that will sell for $5 or more. All the little things that “might go for a quarter” probably won’t sell.
  • If you are unsure about an item and think, “somebody will definitely want this,” please donate it. If you think, “somebody might want this,” please don’t.
  • Because we will have limited space, we will be unable to handle large items.
  • The items remaining at the end of the sale will be donated to a local charity.
  • If you are unsure about an item, reach out to Sarah Loron, project lead: saloron@comcast.net, 206-856-0766

All proceeds from the sale will benefit CSL Seabeck All-Community Camp Adult Scholarship Fund.

Donations accepted in Classroom A, Fellowship Hall: Sunday, 5/12 8:30am-12:30pm; Thursday, 5/16 4:00-7:00pm; Friday, 5/17 12:00-3:00pm; and Saturday, 5/18 8:00-9:00am.

If you’d like to volunteer please contact Sarah Loron at saloron@comcast.net.

Pasado’s Safe Haven  –  Day of Compassion Work Party!

Save the Date: Saturday June 1, 10am-2pm

Join us in helping care for the animals at Pasado’s in Sultan, WA!  We don’t have a project yet, but it may include lifting 30-40 pounds, bending and weeding, walking on uneven ground for some distance, and other physical activities. If you have limitations that may impact your ability to participate, please let us know so they can plan our project accordingly. In the past we have moved rocks, painted the hen house, cut back a trail, cleaned floors, organized a shed – the options are unlimited!

January 2024 Donations

YouthCare opened the Orion Center in 1984. At the time, it was one of the first programs in the nation to receive a federal grant enabling six agencies working with runaway and homeless youth to co-locate in one building. These multiple partners created a constellation of services—thus, the name Orion. Located on the corner of Denny and Stewart, the Orion Center serves as a safe and welcoming place for young people ages 12-24 throughout the day.

Friends of Youth serves King County with a focus on the Eastside. Their list of provided services is long, but their housing program includes the operation of two shelters, The Landing and Youth Haven. They also have Supportive Housing and Rapid Rehousing programs.

Angeline’s Day Center provides safety and support to women experiencing homelessness. More than 200 women each day access Angeline’s drop-in services, which include meals, laundry, showers, lockers, and connections to community resources.
