Ati HD 4850 Pencil Mod Question

Hi!

I read the following...:


This first voltage mod is easy to do but will not give you much more than about 1.4V on VDDC.

...and I asked myself will the maximum pencil strikes give me 1.4V that are possible on this surface or can I also apply a solder bridge to it without damaging the GPU.

Would be nice to know because its much more stable and easy.

If you solder bridge over this resistor - you will fry your card (like I did few months ago). It would give you 1,5V on GPU. It's like drinking more water using nose. Maybe you can, but it doesn't mean it's safe.

Now I'm using soldered resistor. It's safer, cleaner and a resistance is not changing depending on time or temperature.

No, do not replace this resistor! Just use this method:


The solder on the left goes to any ground point on card (there are many of them). The right wire can be soldered to 7 or more points on card, just look how the circuit trace goes.
