French Green Clay (Illite) is one the most majestic, most effective, and most commonly used mineral skin clays found throughout our global community. French Green Clay contains a multitude valuable elements, including montmorillonite. Montmorillonite swells with the addition of water. However, some montmorillonites expand considerably more than other clays due to water penetrating the interlayer molecular spaces and concomitant adsorption. The amount of expansion is due largely to the type of exchangeable cation contained in the particular clay.

French green clay also contains important mineral oxides, magnesium, calcium, potassium, dolomite, silica, manganese, phosphorous, silicon, copper, and selenium. Green clay owes its coloration to 2 very important factors, iron oxides and its decomposed plant matter. The natural green tones found in this luxurious clay are from the very cycles of life this earth uses to regenerate itself. When purchasing French Green Clay it should be green, off green or slightly grey in color.

Cosmetic Uses: French Green Clay is highly efficient at drawing oils and toxins from the skin and is rich in important minerals and phyto-nutrients and is the most commonly used therapeutic clay. Use it for facials and body wraps, body/foot powders, bath bombs, make up, eye shadow and lotions and creams.

Soap:
It adds a soft, slippery feel to soap bars. Adding this to your soap will also make shaving so much smoother for both men & women. 1 tablespoon per pound of soap

Bath Bombs:
Add French Green clay to your bath bombs and they will cure more quickly. It will also reduce, if not eliminate cracking. By replacing half of your cornstarch with clay, bath bombs will cure in less than 24 hours and they will be rock hard, with little to no cracks.
Makeup:
For handmade makeup, this is a must in powder foundations. French Green clay will absorb 1 1/2 times its own weight.

Eye Shadows:
This clay is great to add to your mattes to give them better slip, or to tone down your oxides. It will also help to really spread your mica a long way.

Facial Masks:
Use purified water to moisten your clay, you will only need a small amount. Add water to clay until it is a nice paste consistency and then add skin safe aromatherapy essential oils or infused water in place of purified water. This type of facial mask should only be used once a week on normal skin and up to 2x a week on oily skin complexions.
