Thanks to Barbie, now we’ll all be in the pink

The film, starring Margot Robbie, is not out yet but every fashion label wants a piece of the plastic pin-up

She’s the blonde plastic doll who loves to wear pink and has more than 200 careers on her CV. But this summer Barbie can add the most lucrative job in fashion to that list. These days she is a fully fledged influencer too.

Thanks to Greta Gerwig’s new film — and Margot Robbie’s star turn in the title role that sees her dressed in Barbie costumes by designers such as Vivienne Westwood, Moschino and Versace to promote it — every fashion label in the world wants to collaborate with the 64-year-old plastic pin-up.

More than 100 brands launched limited-edition Barbie products this summer, according to Marketing Week, while stores say sales of items that come in her and Elsa Schiaparelli’s favourite shade have shot up.
