Just in time for fall, Barbour is launching a collection inspired by American actor and "King of Cool," Steve McQueen.
Known for his roles in 1960s and '70s blockbuster films like The Great Escape, The Thomas Crown Affair, The Magnificent Seven, and The Getaway, McQueen was also a motorcycle enthusiast, and even took part in the International Six Days Trial competition in 1964.
He wore a Barbour International waxed cotton suit while racing, and it's that iconic look that helped to inspire this new line of jackets, t-shirts, and button-downs.
“This season our designs focus on the 1964 International Six Days Trial in Erfurt, East Germany where Steve competed as a member of the US team," explained Ian Bergin, the director of menswear, footwear, and accessories at Barbour.
"Combining references to motorcycling and vintage Americana with Barbour’s classic British design cues, we have created a range that celebrates a really exciting time in motorcycling history and we can’t wait for customers to discover the full collection."
McQueen passed away in 1980, but his son Chad McQueen made a promo video (above) for the collection, in which he reminisces about his father.
"I remember being just a young kid and going out to the races with my dad ...and all they wore was Barbour," he says.
"I still have one of my dad's old Barbour jackets ... It's amazing the kind of impact my dad had on fashion in general. And cars, and motorcycles, but fashion. I think cool never goes out of style."
