The snow depth was only a few inches at Great Falls on Tuesday afternoon, but enough to coat the rocks in the Potomac River. For the past three days, the winter storm ensured beautiful snow-covered scenes that have not occurred there for two years.

I made the trip to Great Falls Park on the Potomac River’s Virginia side late Tuesday afternoon, with a few lingering snow flurries in the air. In hindsight, I should have made the trip Tuesday morning because the snow had already begun to melt. The walking trails and overlooks had large puddles, and the snow was beginning to melt off the rocks.
