Letter | Keeping kosher programs in prisons

The Courier-Journal
The most popular Kosher stamp worldwide

Regarding William Meece's request to receive kosher meals, I disagree with my colleague Rabbi David Ariel- Joel.

While there are many American Jews who respect some form of Jewish dietary customs in the same way as Mr. Meece, it would be inaccurate to say that Mr. Meece "keeps kosher." Since he is willing to eat meat products that are not specifically kosher, there is no reason for the prison system to spend the extra money to keep him enrolled in the kosher program.

Abuse of kosher food programs like this only makes it harder for people who will only eat Kosher food.
