New Toyota Land Cruiser GDJ76 Unveiled For The UN: A True Successor To HZJ76?

Toyota Gibraltar Stockholdings (TGS) has unveiled the latest Land Cruiser GDJ76, recognized as the official vehicle for the United Nations. This new model is based on the Land Cruiser 70 Series available in Australia.

TGA has made several changes on the inside to convert this into a reliable workhorse. Some of the comfort features have been stripped out including the latest 6.7-inch touchscreen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility to keep things simple and functional inside the cabin.

These rugged SUVs will typically serve in conflict zones, tackling the harshest of terrain. As a result, the GDJ76 will retain its mechanical features including a part-time 4WD system, a distinctive black snorkel, manually locking hubs, and seating for 10 passengers. The only colour option is a basic unnamed white. TGA will not offer an optional bullet-resistant model; instead, it gets an option to add a ballistic blanket.

Under the bonnet, Toyota has used the 1GD-FTV engine to power the rugged SUV. This is a 2.8-litre four-cylinder diesel engine paired with a six-speed automatic transmission. As per TGA, the updated engine boasts a 30% improvement in fuel efficiency, and emissions have been reduced by 30%, rendering it homologated and accepted in all regions where the new LC is deployed.
